My name is Craig. I teach science in a school district just north of Cincinnati. I enjoy meeting people with the same interests as myself. This site has been very cool for that. I also feel you can learn something new from everyone you meet. I am easy going and hard to offend. Anything else, just ask. Thanks for visiting my page.

My main focus is Variable Kingsnakes (Lampropeltis mexicana thayeri). They are also known as Nuevo Leon Kingsnakes, Thayer's Kingsnakes, or just thayeri for short.

I have carefully assembled a very nice group from trusted and pure bloodlines. I also have endeavored to keep the gene pool of my collection as diverse as possible. I really like aberrant thayeri, but any nice Variable King tends to turn my head.

I am also a big fan of Japanese Rats (Elaphe climacaphora). I find them to be inquisitive, beautiful, and to have very docile and accepting personalities. I think they are under-appreciated in our hobby.

Being a science teacher, I am fascinated by genetics. Snakes have afforded me the opportunity to explore the intricacies of heredity. I truly care about each one of my animals. They all have names, and are treated as members of our family.

Thanks,I don't have him any more. I just gave him to a friend, someone who can handle him and spend more time with him. He also prefers a male handler, go fingure.

Very beautiful collection. Do you bring any to your classroom to show the kids?

We are very lucky in our professions, I would agree! :) I give you credit though...middle schoolers would drive me nutty! In third grade they're learning to be independent, but they still love you too. And you can still put fear in them! haha :) So you teach just north of cincinnati?? They have the best marathon there...The Flying Pig! It's my favorite! I've ran it several times!!! It's a beautiful course and really well organized. And only a 4 hour drive or so from where I live.

Anyway, hope you have a great day with the kiddos :)

Thanks for the add too! Which parts of Genetics are you interested in? I think its such an interesting subject and am still learning about snake genetics.

Stuck at work and typing away on RG...lol. I have gotten some new thayeri recently. I am waiting on 3 to come in at the moment. I finally got my melanistic pair from really good bloodlines that I have been waiting 3 years on. I already have a male from a few years back, and will eventually be getting a female from Lemke lineage. So that will make 2.2 melanistics, all from really nice lineage. So Im excited about that.

As for breeding plans, I have built a hibernaculum in my basement to aid in brumation. I think I will be trying for 6 pairings next spring. I should get some really nice stuff if all goes well. I have also decided to get out of all other species except thayeri. I have one pair or western green ratsnakes left to sell. After that it will be just my thayeri and my female Japanese Ratsnake that is my classroom snake. The kids love her so I wont sell her. Well, you asked, so now Ive rambled for 2 paragraphs. Hope things are doing well on your end. Enjoy work...lol.

Craig

Haha, ramble all you want!! Yes, I'm stuck at work but actually multi-tasking and on RG at the same time though don't worry about that!!

I haven't seen any thayeri in person unfortunately, but maybe sometime. I can't believe you're getting out of everything else but if you're wanting to focus more on them, that's understandable! I understand about the classroom snake also, I'm not sure that I could ever sell my two balls because I've become so attached to them but not sure if I want to keep more of them mainly because they're sooo picky!!

My day is going good actually, getting a lot done online and offline lol!!
