Learning to enjoy life again

I have been fascinated by tortoises since the 60s, when those Red Eared Slider hatchlings were the rave. I also had a nearby zoo with Galapagos tortoises who reminded me of living dinosaurs.
However, I didn't really get into reptiles until my children came along. My oldest son was a herp nut and his Mom (me) eagerly fed both our addictions...lol.
We joined a sorta nearby reptile club and became very active in it and it's rescue program. This was over 15 years ago. Information then was hard to come by, unlike now where so much is out on the internet, including the ease of finding like minded folks.
My then husband became jealous of the time given to reptiles and the friends there, and said they had to go or he would. Thinking to save the relationship, I gave up almost all my reptiles. Years later, I came to my senses. Divorced him and am now slowly trying to get back into reptiles.
I had grown up being taught that snakes were sorta bad creatures and had a fear of them. With trying to get my children over those myths...and just the simple fact my sons loved snakes, I tried to learn to like them. I still have trouble reaching into a tank for an unknown snake, but my own balls have been fine. So I guess I part way succeeded. I do enjoy looking at them and their colors are so wonderful.
However I am by heart a tortoise/turtle person with major love centered in the Hingebacks, especially the Bells Hingebacks.
I enjoy the variety of special folks I find associated with reptiles and their willingness to share their knowledge and experiences.

Mostly the tortoises and turtles.

I love the time I spend just watching my herps being themselves. I enjoy learning about them and getting to know others in the herp community.
I also enjoy growing plants outside (and in tort pens), but I have a black thumb for inside growing. I enjoy just sitting down with a new paperback and reading til the book is done. I read many kinds and have tons of favorite authors...lol.
I enjoy driving down the road and seeing how homes are different every where. I love old homes especially. I like seeing the changes in landscapes and how every mountain is special. Love watching snow and fog change the scenery.
Enjoy just sitting back and watching the tortoises slowly grazing. How a box turtle slowly moves into place to grab a worm. The butterflies slowly gliding from one bloom to another. The tall grasses dancing in the breeze. Watching the sun set and the stars bouncing onto the great velvet screen. The frogs and coyotes giving their nightly chorus. I just enjoy appreciating the wonderful things life and nature have given to me I guess.

Currently the Bells hingebacks, Russians, and box turtles. Waiting for the rest to get to breeding size.

Lots and lots of Bells Hingebacks...lol. Actually would like more of all the Hingebacks. I am wanting to concentrate mostly on breeding this fine animals.
I would like to once more have a Mata Mata, some Diamond Terrapins, Eastern box turtles, Flower box turtles, and a Desert Tortoise. Then there are Leopards, Stars, and NA Wood turtles.
Okay so just about any turtle or tortoises would be welcomed...lol.
There are a few geckos and snakes I at times think about getting, but usually talk myself out of on the grounds that money and space could go to the shelled ones, but who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Listening to the music of rain falling outside the window. Watching the rain falling upon a large leaf of a vine I hadn't pulled out yet. T |

Made it home, but it's too hot to do much. The weeds have made the jungle nice and lush looking...lol. Just also is making it hard to see |
