Hello! My name's Robert. I've been a reptile geek since 1997, becoming inflicted with the "bug" after being introduced to a Redtail Boa. I own every issue of Reptiles Magazine since! :)
I've worked with and bred countless species of pretty much ALL types of herps; from VARIOUS frogs to newts, geckos to chameleons, dragons to monitors, turtles to tortoises and VARIOUS snakes.
I started out as an extreme hobbyist, collecting just about anything that fascinated me and building elaborate/naturalistic enclosures. That eventually turned into me becoming a small time wholesaler, which then led me breeding on a large scale.
I almost opened my own reptile shop back in 2004, but decided to spend a boat-load of money on the Ball Python market instead and started vending at shows. I picked up Pieds, Albinos, Axanthics, Spiders, Yellow Bellies, Cinnamons, Mojaves, Pastels and a bunch of adult females. Back then these things' prices weren't what they are today (e.g. I paid $10k for a pair of Spider hatchlings - doh!).
I then purchased an existing large-scale Rodent Breeding operation. I ran that operation for about 2 years until finally selling it off in pieces. I produced thousands of rats and mice monthly - a whole lot of work! Be sure to check out the video tour of my facility.
After more than a decade of all this fun and experience, my professional life (Technology) inevitably merged with with my hobby life... and reptilegeeks was born.
I envisioned a site where enthusiasts could enjoy the hobby for what it's really all about; easily networking with each other, sharing photos/videos, writing blogs, chatting, free classifieds and so much more! But mainly, to share the love and passion for the hobby with others alike, in a friendly and open atmosphere.
MY HERPETOLOGICAL INTERESTS
Enabling enthusiasts to share their passion on a broader level, and promoting the hobby in new and exciting ways.
MY GENERAL INTERESTS
Reptiles, Amphibians, Invertebrates, Exploring Nature, Photography, Web design/development, Technology...
Thanks so much for RG!
My "myspace friends" hate that all I ever upload are pics of my reptiles - FINALLY a place where I wont get laughed at for posting reptiles pics and calling them "cute" or "adorable"
whats up, I wanted to stop by and say hi. this site is awsome, great job..you have to have bhb back agian, that was great.. It was a lot of fun talkin with them, there hilarious.
Thanks for having us on last night :) Sorry Chewz was not a bit more lively, should you have us back on I will have to make sure he is more active in his participation, and of course next time we will really have to keep Brian out of it so we can get questions for the crew and not Hen Dog.
I will be sure to see we get a Chew Crew page up and running over here ASAP as well.
I need more flyers. We have two events coming up the first weekend of September. I'll be at the shop Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evening if you want to drop them off.
