I live in Richmond VA and love the outdoors. I caught my first snake innocently at the age of five. Just picked him up. After that my folks bought books, and later got me in the local herp society. I was lucky to befriend the herpetologist at the college my dad worked at. Until I purchased two retics at the age of 14, every snake I owned I caught. If the seemed happy I kept them; if not released them where found. With so many breeders, I would not take a snake from the wild again unless injured. (well found that injured snake).

3 normal corns, 1 milk, 1 CA king(RIP),1 BP, 1 snow corn, 1 JCP, 1 black rat(released), 1 Honduran Milk, 1nelson milk, 1 albino black rat snake, one boa, and 1 MBK.

A crazy GF if I fill up more space with snakes. Time to move or get a rack system. (bye old GF hello rack system)

A Thayer's Kingsnake, a tangerine Honduran milk snake an Eastern King, a pine snake, a SD retic, a pastel and mojave BP, a GTP and too much too list.

I've already been to the vet with him, four times now. he has been on injectable antibiotics for a couple months now. he does indeed have a RI, but even with the injections we can't seem to shake it.

Hello there,

Regarding my rescue JCP, i have a question. something very odd is happening, and its kind of got me worried. previously healthy scales are drying up and turning into scabs, which are then peeling off to reveal the delicate tissue underneath. this is happing in large areas all over his body. this is in spots where there was no previous damage. any ideas?

Wow I have been away for awhile and just saw your post. How is the JCP doing. If you still need some advice I will try and see if I can come up with some advice. So sorry to not get to you sooner.

thats okay. he's actually mostly healed up now. theres only the worst of the burns are still there, but he's looking really good. the dry patches i asked about before are also clearing up. there's still some infection in his mouth, and he has snot (for lack of a better term) coming out his nose alot. but he's made such a huge recovery. i'll keep you posted! thank you!

The pic you looked at isn't my rescue. thats my JCP I already had. She's only about 4 and a half feet. and healthy as a horse. I have yet to upload pics of my rescue. Thank you for your concern, and I will keep you updated on his condition.

I got a rescue last thursday, he is a JCP thats almost 7 ft. He was pretty bad off when I got him. He has sever scale rot, in which the actually muscle tissue underneath was showing in some spots, and a bad respiratory infection. I immediatly started treating him with betadine. I took him to the vet friday. Turns out that some of the sever scale rot spots, were actually thermal BURNS. oh I was pissed. cause they were definatly not from him being wrapped around a heat rock too long. it looks more like they took a lighter to him. But we got him on some injectable anitbiotics and burn cream. i'll upload pics soon.
