Something scratching in the night

Last night I was awaken to a strange sound. The hubby said it was the water pipes. I said NO, I heard scratching. I looked around, but found nothing. Went back to bed and there it was again. This time Ken (hubby) got up, and so did the puppies, we have 2 English cream retrievers. Ken was searching behind the couch in the sitting area of our bedroom. Temporary Housing For Adult Dumerils

I have to set up a quick solution for a pair of adult Dumerils I'm getting.  I'm thinking about a couple lid tubs with either flexwatt or pads for heat.  But I'm not really sure what size tubs to get for the temporary fix.  They are about 5' & weigh around 12 - 14#.  I'm open for any suggestions.
