My buddy just recived a ball python from a third party, I looked it over today. It has been well fed and looks to be normal in weight and size. But it looks to have had one bad shed. My main concern is the eye. One eye still has alot of shed on it. It looks bad. But not serious. Theres no discoloration or puss, nothing like that ; just retained shed. I told him to mist the cage once in the morning and once at night. And to try and keep the humidity up around 70-85%.

Is there more to do or is that ok? Not much experiance with BP's. Thanks.

Although my experience is more with king snakes, the shedding process is basically the same with all snakes. Give the snake a container big enough for him to crawl into filled with moist sphagnum moss.
I leave these little moss hides in 24/7, as they really enjoy them, and there has been no problem with sheds.
If he can hole up in a moist hide the stuck on stuff should come off his eye. Trying to manually remove it might damage his fragile cornea.

We have had a lot of rescues in and most have had that problem.  We usually make that wet hide as mentioned and wait for their shed to come.  If the eye caps don't come off, we use a soft wet cloth and sit and pet the snake with it.  Just be sure to have a very gentle touch if you have to do that, you can damage the eye, but the membrane covering the eye is decently rugged.  Also, be aware that with the shed on the eye, the vision isn't as great.  The snake will be able to see movement and light and dark, but will not be able to make out what it is seeing (for the most part).

Good luck!

Hey,

I don't know what your humidity is like there.  Here it is very dry.   I could mist 5 times a day and not get a good humidity in a tank.  Which is why I'm trying to get some used vision cages.   I finally bought a reptifogger and that helps TREMENDOUSLY.
