Now that we have a few members, I think it would be great for everyone to introduce themselves, and explain their interest in tortoises and terrestrial turtles.

I will get things started:

My name is Kristina, and I live in northern Michigan.  I love all reptiles, but my special love is and always has been tortoises.

I currently have to female Sulcata tortoises, Gwen and Ella, and I will soon be adopting a reverse trio of Forest Hingeback tortoises.  I am very excited to have them in my life, and I am hoping to start a captive breeding program with them, eventually adding more females and more of the Kinixys species.

I have been involved in the rescue of pretty much all animals for many years, anything from horses to cats.  I recently decided to place my focus on reptiles and amphibians, as there are less resources for them available, and the average "animal shelter" has little or no idea of their care requirements.

I consider myself a decently experienced herpetoculturist, but I recognize that there is always room for improvement and learning new techniques and technologies.  My main goal in rescue is to educate the public on the level of commitment required for reptiles and amphibians, to keep pets from being abandoned in the wild causing the potential death of the pet and a detriment to native species, and to find homes willing to provide adequate care for these animals.

I have a website of my own dedicated to tortoise care and nutrition.  It is Kyryah's Tortoise Network .

Thanks, and I can't wait to hear all about the rest of you!

Kristina
