Hi,

We just recently got a new chameleon and he's doing great, but I need help finding a good substrate.

I used astroturf for my bearded dragon and that has worked well. Its easy to clean and looks great.
But with the high humidity in the chameleon cage, it doesn't seem to be doing so well there.

Can someone please recommend a substrate that is as easy to clean as astroturf, but won't rot in the high humidity?

The glass is not half full or half empty, its twice as big as it needs to be.

You might get some pads of moss to help keep the humidity up.  Since I have snakes, I'm certainly not the best to ask.  Go to community at the top and search by owners of Chameleons and see what those folks have to say.

I currently own 6 chameleons plus babies and I use newspaper as a substrate for all of them.  It's cheap, easy to clean and disposable.  I replace the newspaper once a week and spot clean poop every day.  You do not want to use any loose substarte because it can be ingested causing impactation resulting in death.  Newspaper, paper towels and cage liners made for reptiles like the astro turf/cage carpet can be used.  Things like sand, pebbles, rocks, bark, wood chips, coconut husk(eco earth),moss etc are to be avoided.  Hope this helps:)
Tree monitors are AWESOME!

I use shelf liner for all my reptiles. My exotics vet recommended it. I buy it by the roll... even found some with a sand pattern and a vine pattern to blend with the cage decor.
