Well my Swiss Webster (we hope)  are finally producing.  Out of three moms so far, I have 32 babies.  Not bad.
I say, we hope because there's were purchased for a great price by a pet shop here in town.  The guy said they were all swiss websters.  I thought I'd try them out.  For first litters I think an average of ten babies each is pretty darn good.
My A.S.F.'s also have about 30 babies so we have many little ones !  YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Sounds really cool! But, what's a Swiss Webster?

Also, how are those gorgeous Garters doing?

If there is no GOD, then we live in vain!

I wanted to get Swiss-Webster stock but have not found a local source. This strain is known for producing large litters. The mice I have average 10 to 12 young per litter so I guess that is okay.

The biggest litter I have gotten is 16. I wish I could find a local person with these mice. The lab supply wont ship to me as I am not a veterinarian certified mousery.

Harlan(800) 793-7287 . Give em a call, but I bet they want you to be veterinarian certified. I will try calling them tomorrow or Tuesday when they are open Eastern time.

Great information, Boakingdom!
I just talked to the Harlan rep and she said 11+ is about average with potential for 14 to 16 with their mice. That's what I am getting now most of the time. The other thing is their mice are raised in tightly controlled sanitary conditions, and have not got the antibodies built up that my regular old mice have. Unless I could duplicate sterile lab conditions the lab mice might get sick.  So all in all I think I will stick with my tough little  mutts.

She has more babies underneath her (first litter of 10). It's such a stormy day today I didn't want to bother them anymore than minimally necessary to get this shot. Father on right. My mousery is closed to new additions, as I had a mild bout of mouse pneumonia break out awhile back. Am breeding for resistance and have had no problems with any further outbreaks since.

Harlan will ship but I'd have to pick them up at the airport and that would be a big hassle. For the expense of getting them, I think I am okay with what I have for now.

This is the data I found from another lab supply. How many babies do your mice produce on average?

The Harlan rep said they were currently out of stock of the Swiss-Websters for new customers but have another type, ICR's, which are comparable.  I'm not sure I want those, though, as they have a high incidence of retinal degeneration, which matters to me as I raise pet stock as well as feeders.

My mutts are okay for now. I breed for colors as well as food, and having only 16 snakes, still have a freezer full and trade my surplus to a pet store for supplies. I would miss my colors. In order to properly keep the Swiss-Webster stock, I'd need a whole other building to house them; major expense. If cost were not an issue I'd have the Swiss in a heartbeat, as a separate project.

Because of the cost of obtaining Swiss-Webster, I will have to put that on the back burner for now. Robert has a decently prolific stock; I may go to his shop and get a few of those to add to my stock for new blood. His shop is within driving distance.

Some babies being raised for color; there is about a dozen in this litter.

Since you have had your Swiss-Webster stock for a number of years now, how do you avoid inbreeding?
