Last year I got a baby burm from local pet store. I had raised a pair in the late 80s - but it had been a long time. The pet store ordered it because it was pretty - but no one there would handle it because he was mean. So I went in daily and handled it for half an hour - and finally ended up taking him home (they won't order another).

He got what I believe was an URI over winter - clicking sound when he breathed and went off feed. I increased his temps by adding a CHE and he seemed to have gotten better, no more clicking sound and he is feeding again.

I took him home I believe in September. He's currently about 40 inches which is a little small I think - anyway, a few weeks ago I started to run low on f/t adult mice which I need for my kings so I asked for a small rat at local pet store - and the rat they gave me looked a little large but he downed it and immediately went into a shed cycle.

After the shed cycle - I got him another of same size, and after eating it he clearly was looking for more - so I got him another today.

It's been a long time since I kept the species - I suspect I've been underfeeding him.

Would someone who has kept records mind posting their feeding schedule with weight/size so I can get a better feel of how much I've been underfeeding him?

Next feeding I'm definitely offering two small rats off the bat and will photograph him with both in his belly and post it with a dollar bill for size reference. I'll post his weight before the feeding as well.

I need to get him back on f/t as rats are dangerous prey so I'm going to need to add a bunch of rats to next r/p order - as adult mice are clearly way to small. I'd like to make sure I order enough rats so that I don't run out between r/p orders.

I'll also be tracking his progress here:

Chester

Thanks for any advice.

No vids - just photos oh him.

I'll wait until the next time he feeds to show his bulge w/ two rats in him.

I feed hatchlings every 4-7 days and adults every 7 days I try for one or two prey items that leave a good bulge in the belly some say I over feed them but they are happy and healthy so if the vet says they are healthy then I guess I am doing something right.

At any rate that is the feeding schedule I use.

As for the mice my burms never see a mouse I start them on rat crawlers and pinks and with in a month or two they are on small rats..Hope that helps some.

My baby burms I have always feed small to med. meals every 3-5 days then as adults large meals every 7-10 days. Like juggalo said though I dont feed mine mice either rats and rabbits but I have a breeder for my rabbits who will freeze whole litters of pinks for me.

Have you ever been told you have snakes on the brain

He's a tough little bugger to weigh - but weigh him I did - he's currently about 370g

I bought two small rats but I ended up only feeding him one - after eating one, it looked like he could probably fit another but it would be quite a belly full.

The leftover rat is a female, I think I'll make her a pet and the start of a breeding colony.

The rat was 85g - a little less than a quarter his weight, I thought two might be pushing it a bit.

Hey, I just joined.

One of my first herps was a Burmese back in 86, since then I've had quite a few other herps and now I'm focusing on Tegus, however...

... I may be adopting an adult Burmese and I have some questions.

1) He? is 7 years old and just ober 7'. Is this normal or is he small?

2) He was being fed 1X a month, I would feed 2X. Can I expect him to grow signigicantly more?

3) I've read males seldom get over 10 feet. True or false? What can I expect?

Any help is great.
